COERR Maesot Supported Volunteer Groups in Concrete Water Tank Repair and Check Dam Construction

In March 2023, COERR Mae Sot supported two volunteer groups for community activities in Ban Mae La temporary shelter and Ban Umpiem Temporay Shelter in Tak Province’s Tha Song Yang and Phop Phra District.

On March 10, 2023, COERR supported a group of 59 youth volunteers, 33 females and 26 males, in the mission of repairing of water storage tank in Ban Mae La temporary shelter. The volunteers worked to clean, seal and coat the concrete water tanks which were built in various locations of Ban Mae La for fire extinguishment, so that these tanks can store water again, which serve the objectives of community safety.

Later, during March 16-22, 2023, COERR supported construction materials for building a check dam in the area joining Section 4 and 5 in Ban Umpiem Temporary Shelter, Pop Phra District, Tak Province. The construction materials provided to 140 youth volunteers included sacks, wooden posts for building a check dam, PE pipe, taps and other supporting tools.

The work included collecting the dead wood, clearing the waterway, digging soil and filling into the sack, stacking the soil sacks and driving the wooden post to fix the soil sacks; laying the Polyethylene (PE) pipe along the area and to the check dam and put the water tap at the end of the pipe.

The success of building this check dam made other sections request for a checkdam like this to be built in their sections as well. The further project is under consideration.
